Eftirskúli on the Faroe Islands
Føroya Eftirskúli is a type of school called ‘Eftirskúli’, which is a type of boarding school for students aged 14 to 18 years. In this type of school the students live in the school’s dormitory and the main focus is to teach the students about life, communities and to become a self sufficient and independent individual.
The history to establish Føroya Eftirskúli on the Faroe Islands is about 20 years old. Through this time a lot of people have been involved, both interest groups, municipalities and the country. It has been a long process; regulations were changed in 2000 and the plan was to build a foundation, so that schools could be built on the Faroe Islands, but we reached a stand-still at that time.
Later on many attempt were made to establish an eftirskúli, the government also supported the project, but nothing more happened at that time.
Fast forward to august 2020 we could finally offer students a school stay in an eftirskúli on the Faroe Islands.
